The new Democratic Governor and Senators took office last month and already they are undoing the pro-life progress of their predecessors. Under the leadership of a Republican Governor, Virginia had passed a ultrasound requirement for women considering abortion, because most women who see their baby choose life. With the change of leadership in the Senate came a renewed attack on this life saving law. The Senate voted 20-20 to repeal the bill with the Lt. Governor breaking the vote. Thankfully, since the House of Delegates is still controlled by the Republicans it is unlikely to go any farther, but we still ask that Virginians call their Delegate and ask them to vote against the repeal of the ultrasound requirement.
First of 2014 - Marriage in Utah, Reince Priebus on March For Life, New Parental Rights Cosponsors1/7/2014 MARRIAGE IN UTAH: The US Supreme Court issued a stay on a December ruling by federal District Court judge Robert J. Shelby that would have forced the state to accept homosexual "marriage". The stay issued yesterday by the Supreme Court allows Utah's ban on homosexual "marriage" to remain in place while Judge Shelby's decision is appealed to the Tenth Circuit court. Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, released the following statement: "The Supreme Court has today signaled that it will not allow state laws defining marriage to be set aside by a lone judge without a careful consideration of the issues involved. The issuance of a stay is consistent with the Court's ruling last year in Windsor v. United States, in which they affirmed that states have the 'historic and essential authority to define the marital relation' and condemned federal efforts 'to influence or interfere with state sovereign choices about who may be married.'" MARCH FOR LIFE: On Sunday, news broke that Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is delaying the start if the GOP's winter meetings so that RNC members can attend the March For Life on January 22. The party will also charter a bus to transport committee members to the March For Life. Read the story in the Washington Times here. While we don't always agree with Chairman Priebus, we applaud this decision and hope that he will continue to show strong pro-life leadership as the chairman of the Republican Party. PARENTAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT: Over the Christmas and New Years holidays, the Parental Rights Amendment gained five new cosponsors, bringing the total number up to 70! Click here to see if your Congressman is on the list, and if they're not, give them a call and ask them to support parental rights!
Moving forward, Senator Corker's opposition to the treaty will serve as a significant barrier to ratification of the CRPD in 2014 and beyond. We applaud Senators Corker and Alexander for their position protecting the Constitution, national sovereignty, and parental rights.

Cafaro has requested that SB 248 be suspended and withdrawn. Click here to read her statement. The Home School Legal Defense Association calls it the "worst-ever homeschool law proposed in Ohio." Senate Bill 248, introduced by State Senator Capri Cafaro, would require all homeschooling parents to undergo a investigation that would determine if the family would be allowed to homeschool. According to HSLDA's Michael Donnelly: "Social workers would have to interview parents and children separately, conduct background checks and determine whether homeschooling is recommended or not. If it is not recommended, parents would have to submit to an “intervention” before further consideration of their request to homeschool." Read HSLDA's summary of the bill, as well as important background information about the tragic circumstances that led to the bill's introduction, by clicking here. Ken Cuccinelli lost the Governor's race, primarily due to a third party Libertarian candidate in the race (a Democrat-funded vote-splitter who supports Obamacare expansion) who received 6%+ of the vote, which would have swung the election easily (Ken Cuccinelli lost by 2%). The Republican National Committee also refused to give Cuccinelli the funds he needed, resulting in his being outspent by 10-1 in the last week (and much higher figures leading up to that week). The RNC spent $3 million in Cuccinelli's race, while funneling $40 million in Chris Christie's campaign in New Jersey (where Christie was expected to win by a landslide). The Republican for Lt. Governor, E.W. Jackson, also lost.
That may look pretty bleak. But being on the ground in Virginia for a Generation Joshua Student Action team, I got to see a bright side that many will never think about.
Pending a recount, conservative Mark Obenshain won the Attorney General's race by a few hundred votes. Generation Joshua teams were the deciding factors in several races for the Virginia House of Delegates, holding a 67-seat super-majority for the GOP in that house.
More than anything else, we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose. God has a plan in everything, and the Virginia race is no exception.

This treaty endangers the sovereignty of the United States by placing the United Nations over the USA as the final authority for laws on people with disabilities. The United Nations is comprised of not only countries like the United States, but also countries that practice human rights abuses on a daily basis. These countries have no respect for life, and therefore we should not give them any say over our laws. The United Nations is an unelected group of individuals that can potentially wield power over the will of the American people. We cannot allow that to happen.
Secondly, this treaty would enshrine abortion into American law. Under the treaty, any means necessary for a disabled person to plan the spacing and number of children must be allowed. What if someone decides to only have two children, and finds they are pregnant with a third? The only way to stop them from having a third is abortion. Thus the treaty, by requiring that quote "The rights of persons with disabilities to decide freely and responsibly on the number and spacing of their children and to have access to age-appropriate information, reproductive and family planning education are recognized, and the means necessary to enable them to exercise these rights are provided," enshrines abortion into the law of any nation that accepts the treaty. This sentence, innocent as it may sound, could destroy millions of lives.
Thirdly, the treaty places the government as overseers of the decisions of the parents of disabled children. Parents would be stripped of their ability to make decisions in the best interest of their child; suddenly it would be the government's job.
Because of these three issues, it is not in America's best interest, nor in the best interest of the disabled, to pass this treaty. After all, most disabled children are killed by abortion before they are born. This treaty, rather than helping the disabled, enshrines into law a way to dispose of them, a way to discriminate against them, and a way to murder the disabled.
