ACTION: Senate Republicans are trying to Compromise on Gun Control

Call your Senators and ask them to continue to oppose gun control. Senator Harry Reid is attempting to force a vote on the bill as early as tomorrow. Several Senate Republicans are talking about caving. This Gun Control bill is dangerous for American Liberty, because of the mechanisms that it would put in place, that would potentially require a registry. Some Republicans are trying to make the bill better by proposing Amendments, but this bill is bad enough that it needs to be rewritten from scratch.

 The National Rifle Association explains their concern with the bill;
 Schumer's bill--S. 649, the "Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013"-- would criminalize virtually all private firearm sales, even temporary transfers, making you a criminal if you simply transfer a firearm to an aunt, uncle, cousin or lifelong friend without the federal government's approval.  Even worse, President Barack Obama's Justice Department says that Schumer's bill will only be effective if it's coupled with mandatory gun registration.

Senator Cruz commented;
"Congress should not create new legislation restricting the rights of law-abiding Americans. The Democrats' proposed legislation would require universal background checks for private sales between law-abiding citizens, which according to DOJ would be effective only if accompanied by a national gun registry. This raises serious constitutional issues, and would divert resources from prosecuting felons and fugitives who try to illegally purchase guns.

'I am prepared to use any procedural means necessary to ensure that Congress does not pass any laws infringing on the Second Amendment, and look forward to working alongside Sens. Lee and Paul, and hopefully others, to protect our constitutional rights."
