The Gang of Eight's immigration bill, S. 744, passed the Senate 68-32 on Thursday evening. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was the key proponent of the bill, while Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) led the fight against it.
The bill grants amnesty to 11 million illegal immigrants already living in the United States, with some reservations such as criminal background checks. However Senator Cruz pointed out that "[t]he Gang of Eight bill promises border security later for amnesty today." Reports say Speaker of the House John Boehner stated in a closed door meeting that he will not bring the bill to the floor of the House. See how your Senator voted on the bill here.
